GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Seasons altered, new protocols and mastering a hybrid learning model all proved to be hurdles that were resoundingly overcome according to UND academic reports released Tuesday. University of North Dakota student-athletes recorded a combined overall 3.498 department grade point average in the Fall semester. UND athletes charted their fourth consecutive semester with all varsity sports above a 3.0 semester grade point average with their semester GPA just shy of the school's Division I record it just set a semester prior. 

"With the pandemic pushing most of our athletic events to the spring semester, these student-athletes proved their resiliency once again and continued to excel in the classroom," said Andres Freeman, UND's Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services. "It is really impressive how much more they have had to manage and balance this semester versus any other semester or time in their life. From COVID testing and following quarantine protocols to Zooming for some classes and not for others, they were able to adapt and continue to put forth their best in the studies much like last spring. The results are very similar and put into perspective the kind of student-athlete our coaches recruit to our flagship university. Truly UND Proud!"

Fighting Hawks athletes have now gone 25 straight semesters with a combined 3.0 overall department GPA. Nearly one-third (108 of 344) of all athletes and degree-completing students achieved perfect 4.0 semester GPAs in the Fall with a whopping 50 of those also continuing to maintain their 4.0 cumulative GPAs. The percentage of UND athletes that etched a 3.0 Fall GPA or higher was an incredible 85 percent.
