GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Amid a pandemic and athletics season-altering changes that went with it, University of North Dakota student-athletes conquering distance learning, recording a combined overall 3.523 department grade point average in the Spring semester, according to academic reports released Monday. UND athletes charted its third consecutive semester with all varsity sports above a 3.0 semester grade point average its semester GPA beating the school's Division I record they had just set in the Fall.
"Even a pandemic and distance learning didn't change the way our student-athletes competed in the classroom this semester," UND's Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services
Andres Freeman said. "Like the rest of their peers, their world was turned upside down in March but that didn't stop them from having another record semester academically. They continue to raise the bar for what it means to be a student-athlete here at the University of North Dakota. As a department we are so grateful and proud of their resiliency and determination during this challenging time."
Fighting Hawks athletes now have gone 24 straight semesters with a combined 3.0 overall department GPA. More than one-third (111) of all 326 athletes achieved perfect 4.0 semester GPAs in the Spring with 25 of those also continuing to maintain their 4.0 cumulative GPAs.
