UND stays perfect with 6-1 drubbing of Augie

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory over Augustana on Sunday evening from Sioux Falls, S.D.

UND (2-0) capped off a perfect weekend against the Vikings to extend its program-record winning streak to 11 straight matches.

The Hawks rallied in doubles play after dropping a tight match on the No. 1 court, with Johnatan Parat and Edmond Aynedjian posting a 7-5 win on the No. 2 court before Danny DeNike and Petro Alex followed suit with a 7-5 triumph of their own from the No. 3 spot to give UND a 1-0 lead.

Lucas Percy quickly extended the advantage to 2-0 with a pair of 6-1 wins on the No. 3 court to open singles play and Alex made it 3-0 in rather short order with a 6-2, 6-0 victory from the fifth spot.

Aynedjian and Cian McDonnell added the finishing touches to the victory, with Aynedjian cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 4 position and McDonnell moving to 2-0 in his UND career with a pair of 6-4 triumphs on the No. 2 court.

While it wasn't flawless, Parat moved to 12-0 in his singles career at UND by rallying on the top court from a 6-4 defeat in the opening set with a 6-1 win in the second set and a thrilling, 10-9 victory in the tiebreaker to seal the 6-1 win by the Fighting Hawks.

North Dakota returns to action next Saturday with a showdown against Northern Illinois at 4 p.m.
