DEKALB, Ill. -- It took less than 24 hours for UND to get back to its winning ways, as the Fighting Hawks defeated Youngstown State, 4-3, in men's tennis on Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site contest from DeKalb, Ill.
After seeing its program-record 11-match winning streak come to an end yesterday, UND (3-1) responded with a trio of victories on the bottom courts to seal a victory over the Penguins.
The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a pair of victories on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts, with
Johnatan Parat and Gerald Sullwald collecting a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position and
Petro Alex and
Edmond Aynedjian posting a 6-3 triumph to seal the advantage for UND after two-man play.
Youngstown State picked up two singles victories on the No. 2 and 3 courts, but UND answered back on the bottom courts once again. Ayndedjian rolled to back-to-back 6-2 wins before Alex made it three points for the visitors with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at the sixth position.
After a three-set victory by the Penguins on the top court knotted the game at three,
Cian McDonnell provided his first major moment as a Fighting Hawk by rallying for a three-set win of his own at the No. 4 position to give the green and white the victory.
