BOROWICZ BUCKETS
Having sat out the first three regular season games,
Kacie Borowicz was ready to hit the floor again. Her return and first regular season game was against the Montana State Bobcats. Borowicz entered the game and immediately made an impact in the first half. She lef in scoring at the time with 17 points. As the Hawks returned to the floor in the second half, she remained a strong offensive force for UND. She ended the game as the leader in points with 33. Twenty of those points would come from free-throws, which would lead to  Borowicz having a record-breaking showing for her first time back on the court. The junior from Roseau, Minn. shot 100% (20-20) from the line, which beat the prior single game record for most free throws made in a game. The record was held by Whitney Meier who scored 17 against Barry (1990). She also tied the free throw single game percentage (1.000). The prior sole record holder is Makailah Dyer who went 14-for-14 at Northern Iowa on Dec. 18, 2016. These are two large accomplishments for Borowicz as she heads into the rest of the season with the Fighting Hawks.
ALL-TIME WITH BUCKNELL
The North Dakota and Bucknell women's basketball programs have never met in their histories. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Fighting Hawks and Bison.
LAST TIME OUT
The Fighting Hawks flew past the Montana State Bobcats with an 89-85 win at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Saturday, Nov. 20. Starting off the first quarter down 14 points, UND was able to bounce back with late threes from
Maggie Manson and
Melissa Leet. This placed them within two as they headed into the second quarter. The Fighting Hawks kept the momentum and took the lead in the second quarter. They maintained the lead for the rest of the afternoon. Free throws played a key factor in the result with UND going 35-for-39 from the line.
Kacie Borowicz shot 20 of those 39 team free throws. She went 20-for-20 on her personal free throws. Although the Bobcats out-rebounded UND 43-34, the Fighting Hawks held better shooting percentages. North Dakota shot 48.9 percent from the field goal range and 42.1 percent from the three point line compared to Montana State's 34.3 percent from field goal range and 39.1 percent from the three.Â
DAVIS'S DEFENSE
DJ Davis was the defensive force that the Fighting Hawks needed on Saturday, Nov. 20 against the Bobcats. She was tasked with guarding Montana State's top point scorer, Darian White. White entered the game having averaged 12.5 points per game and was one of the six players named to the Big Sky preseason all-conference team. Davis played hard man coverage on White, which prompted the Bobcats to make a shift to their offense. With White no longer bringing the ball down the court, Davis and the Fighting Hawks caused 17 turnovers and had 14 steals. By the end of the game, Davis had limited White to 11 points while also scoring 11 points for UND. Davis ended the night offensively shooting 66.7 percent from field goal range, 50 percent from the three, and 50 percent from the free throw line.Â
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
Bucknell enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record. The Bison opened their season at Ohio State falling to the Buckeyes, 48-71. They have continued to play on the road since that first meeting. Their first win of the season was at Fairleigh Dickingson, 66-56. After that was a loss at Temple (46-59) before turning around and beating IONA (55-48). Senior Taylor O'Brien was voted one of the top five players in the conference and was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. O'Brien was a First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2021 as well as a member of the 2021All-Tournament Team. She finished fourth in the league in scoring (16.3) while averaging 6.1 rebounds per game. O'Brien also finished 18th in the country in free-throw percentage (.871).
