Jakob Hellsten, Louis Jamernik garner NCHC weekly accolades

First conference honor for both players this season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Freshman goaltender Jakob Hellsten and sophomore forward Louis Jamernik were both honored by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Monday following a weekend sweep over Colorado College. Hellsten was named the league's rookie of the week while Jamernik garnered a forward of the week selection.
Jamernik ignited North Dakota's offense in a sweep at Colorado College with a trio of goals. He scored UND's first goal both nights, tying the game at 1-1 in the first period each time after CC had opened the scoring. In doing so, he stretched his going-scoring streak to three games. Along with UND's opening goal each night, the Calgary, Alberta, native also sealed Saturday's 4-1 victory with an empty-net goal, his second multi-goal game of the season. He went over .500 in the faceoff circle on both Friday and Saturday, as well.

He ended the series with three goals, four shots on goal and a +3 plus/minus. He also went 20-for-34 on faceoffs (.588) on the weekend, including 11 wins on Saturday. UND improved to 5-0-0 this season when Jamernik scores a goal. He is now tied for second on the team with seven goals and has five assists for 12 points in 19 games on the year.
This is Jamernik's first NCHC weekly honor of the season and first career Forward of the Week nod, but he did earn Rookie of the Week once last season.
Hellsten was impressive in his first collegiate start Saturday at Colorado College, earning his first career win in only his second appearance in net for UND. The Swede allowed only one goal and none even strength in a 4-1 victory, while racking up 23 saves. After allowing an early power-play goal, Hellsten shut down the Tigers the rest of the way, helping kill off the final five CC power plays by making seven short-handed saves. He also made nine third period saves with UND clinging to a 2-1 lead.
In his only start of the weekend, Hellsten compiled a .958 save percentage by making 23 saves on 24 shots, while posting a 1.00 goals-against average. In limited action this year, Hellsten is now 1-0-0 with a 3.30 GAA and an .882 save percentage in two appearances.
This is Hellsten's first career NCHC weekly honor, while he's the third Fighting Hawk to win Rookie of the Week this season (forwards Jake Schmaltz and Matteo Costantini).
