CHICAGO -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team rolled past Illinois-Chicago, 7-0, on Friday afternoon from XS Tennis Center in the Windy City.
UND (4-2) was pushed to three sets on a trio of courts, but came away victorious in every match played on the day.
In doubles play, it was the bottom two courts who helped the Fighting Hawks jump out to a 1-0 lead, as the duo of
Edmond Aynedjian and
Petro Alex picked up a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court before
Johnatan Parat and
Lucas Percy cemented the early advantage for the visitors with another 6-4 triumph at the number two position. UND made it a clean sweep on the top court, with
Cian McDonnell and Gerald Sullwald earning a 7-6 victory.
Alex kept the momentum rolling into singles play, picking up a quick, 6-1, 6-0 win on the bottom court before Aynedjian pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a pair of 6-3 victories at the No. 4 position.
McDonnell sealed the win for the Hawks with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at the No. 3 court before Parat and Sullwald each earned three-set victories at the top-two spots to make it a clean sweep for the Hawks.
North Dakota returns to action tomorrow afternoon against Chicago State at 1:30 p.m.
