CHICAGO -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team capped off a perfect weekend with a 7-0 win over Chicago State on Sunday from the Windy City.
UND (6-2) has now won three straight matches, all coming in Chicago, and dropped only one point as a team over those three contests.
In doubles play, Chicago State grabbed a victory on the No. 1 court, but UND rallied with a pair of 7-5 triumphs at the other positions to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Petro Alex and
Edmond Aynedjian were the first to win their match on the No. 3 court before
Johnatan Parat and
Lucas Percy sealed the victory in two-man play at the middle position.
A victory by retirement on the sixth court pushed the lead to 2-0 for the Fighting Hawks before
Gerhard Sullwald quickly extended the lead to 3-0 with a pair of 6-3 wins on the No. 2 court to push the match to its brink.
Just as he did in doubles play, Percy sealed the win in singles play and the overall match for the visitors with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the fifth position. Parat continued his hot play with a 6-2, 7-6 win at the top spot and
Cian McDonnell battled to a 7-5, 7-6 victory on the No. 3 court before Aynedjian cemented the sweep with a 7-5, 7-6 himself at the fourth position.
North Dakota will open the home portion of the season on March 5 against future Summit League foe St. Thomas at 10 a.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
