MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team defeated Cardinal Stritch, 6-1, on Sunday morning to complete a 1-1 weekend in Milwaukee.
UND (2-6) won all but two sets on the afternoon against a Cardinal Stritch (1-3) program that took Northern Iowa the distance just over a week ago in action.
The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to doubles play, led by the top pairing of
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson picking up a 6-2 victory before
Allie Ochotorena and
Kaede Amano followed suit with a 6-2 win of their own on the second court.
Charlotte Bowles and
Angela Georgieva polished off the perfect play in two-person action with a 6-0 sweep from the bottom position.
Momentum carried into singles play, with Amano rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on the fourth court to extend the lead to 2-0 in favor of the visitors. Moments later, Jansson extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the third position and a 6-2, 6-0 win by Georgieva sealed the victory for the green and white.
Sela made it three straight wins in singles action for herself and pushed it to 4-0 for the Hawks with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on the top court before
Jaylee Yasunaga notched her first win of the season by a 6-3, 6-2 score. The Wolves picked up a three-set victory on the second court, but UND closed out the 6-1 win.
North Dakota will now return home for the first time this season to battle future Summit League member, St. Thomas, on Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
