GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory at home over Oral Roberts on Friday evening from Choice Health and Fitness.
UND (8-2, 1-0 Summit League) moves to 1-0 in league play with the win and remains perfect at home with a 2-0 mark.
In doubles play, the Fighting Hawks got off to a strong start when
Petro Alex and
Edmond Aynedjian cruised to a 6-2 triumph on the No. 3 court before
Gerhard Sullwald and
Cian McDonnell etched the 1-0 lead for the hosts by a 6-4 score at the top spot.
Johnatan Parat won his sixth straight singles match in convincing style, picking up a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 court to push the advantage to 2-0. Moments later, Aynedjian sent the match to its brink with a 6-1, 6-2 win from the fourth position to notch his fifth consecutive victory.
It was the even courts that kept doing the damage for the green and white, as Alex sealed the win on the sixth court by a 6-3, 6-4 score to secure the 1-0 start in league play.
Lucas Percy and McDonnell made it six victories in seven tries, each doing so in three sets, to send the fans home happy with a resounding win.
North Dakota hits the road for four straight matches over Spring Break, heading to New Orleans to battle Xavier (La.) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
