Southern Miss defeats UND, 6-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Southern Miss on Saturday evening.

UND (9-4) picked up a victory in doubles play and singles play, but the Golden Eagles (5-1) won the remaining matches to pick up the win.

In doubles action, Gerhard Sullwald and Cian McDonnell collected a 7-6 win on the top court to keep their hot streak going. McDonnell nearly had a victory in singles play as well, but fell in three sets at the third position.

Lucas Percy battled to a three-set victory on the No. 5 court during singles play, picking up a 6-2 win in the first set before a 4-6 defeat in the second frame sent the match to a tiebreaker. There, he rolled to a 9-5 win to notch the first points of the day for the visitors.

North Dakota returns home for a conference showdown against Illinois State on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
