North Dakota Alumnae Shine Bright in Europe and Australia

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota alumnae and former All-Big Sky performers Makailah Dyer (2012-16) and Mia Loyd (2012-17) shined bright for their basketball clubs in Australia and Finland, respectively, bookending seasons with spotlight performances.

In Australia's National Basketball League 1, Dyer opened her season with the Perth Red Backs with a 30-point performance to lead the Red Backs past the Warwick Senators, 95-78. Dyer also pulled down 13 rebounds and led all scorers with four three-point field goals, closing the contest 6-of-14 from the field.

A product of Madison, Wis., Dyer is in her fourth season for the Western Australia club and has established Her Hoops AU, a girls basketball skills development and training program in Perth.

Wrapping up her fifth professional season and third for Forssan Alku, Loyd helped the Korisliiga side to its first bronze medal in 19 seasons. Loyd turned in a 10-point, 15-rebound performance to lead FoA past Espoo Team, 74-55. The team finished fourth with a 22-11 record in 2020-21 as Loyd averaged 22.6 points and 13.3 rebounds per game, the third-best averages in the Korisliiga this past season.

The former Big Sky Player of the Year has averaged over 22 points per game in four of her five professional seasons in Finland, Iceland, and Portugal.
