Roos hold off UND, 4-3

KANSAS CITY -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Kansas City on Saturday afternoon to fall to 2-1 in league play and 7-8 overall.

UND rallied in singles play, but came up a match short to see its three-match winning streak come to an end and suffer a defeat by the same score that it defeated the Roos by last season.

In doubles play, it was the Roos who took control of the match with victories on the first and third courts to take a 1-0 lead. Allie Ochotorena and Nina Zdravkovic prevented a sweep by the hosts in two-person action, rolling to a 6-2 win from the No. 2 position.

A pair of triumphs at the second and sixth spots pushed the lead to 3-0 in favor of KC, but UND started to rally. Sapir Sela, the reigning Summit League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, picked up a 7-6, 6-1 victory at the top court before Zdravkovic cut the deficit to 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win on the No. 5 court.

Kaede Amano knotted the match at three by rallying back from a 5-7 defeat in the opening set with a 6-2 score in the second and a dominating 6-1 performance in the tiebreaker to turn all eyes to the No. 3 position. There, Andrea Jansson picked up a 6-3 win of her own in the second stanza to also send her match to a tiebreaker, but the Roos came up with the victory to clinch the match.

North Dakota returns home on April 10 to battle Denver at 1:30 p.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
