GRAND FORKS, N.D. – In a must-win series for North Dakota (5-8 Summit), the attack-minded Fighting Hawks pushed forward against South Dakota (8-6-1 Summit), who proved its worth in transition and on the counter, downing UND to clinch the final Summit League Tournament berth.
The Coyotes scored three times in the first half, including the 39th and 43rd minutes, to build momentum heading into halftime.
The Fighting Hawks attack pressed in the opening frame and controlled possession 51-49 with 64-percent of their possession on the attacking end of the pitch. The UND midfield won the possession battle thanks to its 50-50 supremacy, creating in the middle third to close the first half with four shots on goal and 12 shots total.
With UND throwing numbers forward in the second half to equalize, the Yotes countered the Hawks three times in the second half. USD finished with six different goal scorers in the match.
Madi Livingston registered with six saves, including four in the second half.
Hannah Olson led UND with five shots, including three on target.
The Fighting Hawks will close the spring season on Sunday, April 11 against South Dakota with the teams kicking off at 2 p.m.
