MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of North Dakota stood firm against Minnesota, holding the Golden Gophers scoreless in the opening 41 minutes of play. However, the Fighting Hawks (2-3) could not counter back as Minnesota (4-0-3) improved its undefeated record, 2-0.
Striker
Hannah Olson showed no fear against the Golden Gopher defense, who has yet to concede a goal through 690 minutes, taking three cracks at the net with one on target. The West Des Moines, Iowa product played 78 minutes in the attack.
The Fighting Hawks held the Gopher scoreless in the opening 40+ minutes thanks to the UND backline and goalkeeper
Madi Livingston, who made a diving save in the match's opening minutes on a sent volley 35 yards out and a close-range header. However, substitute Maddie Baker's header broke the shutout as a Christa Van Loon volley was saved from the end line by Sophia Boman, who found Baker for the goal just before halftime.
Minnesota scored its final goal in the 84th minute as Makenzie Langdok bent the ball into the upper-90 of the far post to double the U of M's lead. The Golden Gophers improved its goal margin to +8 with its seventh shutout of the season. Livingston finished with five saves in the match.
Next weekend, the University of North Dakota will return to action for a pair of matches in Oregon, starting Friday night, Sept. 17, at Oregon State and a Sept. 19 tilt with Portland.
