BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota track and field teams competed in the Jim Emmerich Invitational on the campus of South Dakota State on Saturday. The Fighting Hawks impressed with four new top-10 marks in program history and three top-three finishes at the meet.
Elise Ulseth showed out in her first performance as a Fighting Hawk, recording two new top-10 marks in school history. Ulseth started the meet clearing 5-5 (1.65m) to finish sixth in the high jump, good to tie the No 10 jump in UND history. She followed up that performance with a third-place finish in the long jump with the fifth-best leap in school history in 18-5 (5.61m).
Natalie Mohring recorded a personal-best toss of 60-5 1/4 (18.42m) in the weight throw to finish sixth, moving her up to No. 5 on the all-time UND top-10 performance list.
The top individual performances at the meet for the kelly green and white came in the triple jump, where the Hawks posted a 2-3 finish. Both
Autumn Stokes and
Jennifer Parent recorded jumps of 37-2 1/4 (11.33m), but Stokes won the tiebreaker to finish as the runner-up in the event. Parent also picked up a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/4 (5.34m).
Aleece Durbin lit up the track with three top-eight finishes at SDSU and one top-10 mark in school history. Durbin placed seventh in both the 60-meter hurdles final (9.08) and 60-meter final (8.02). Her prelim time of 8.01 in the 60 meters currently ranks 10th in UND history.
Durbin concluded her day with an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.51.
Conny Wohlfahrt and
Mitchel Wangler both took fifth in their respective events on the track. Wohlfahrt was fifth in the women's mile in a time of 5:00.93, while Wangler placed fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.55.
Back in the infield,
Kenna Curry finished fifth in the women's shot put with a mark of 45-8 1/2 (13.93m). Teammate
Allison Lardy was eighth with a throw of 44-4 3/4 (13.53m).
Harris Maclean finished seventh in the men's pole vault with a PR clearance of 13-11 1/2 (4.25m).
Jory Vasek wrapped up the event in the men's 400 meters and placed eighth in a time of 51.38.
UND will now return home for its first two-day meet of the season, hosting the UND Open inside the Pollard Athletic Center on Jan. 28-29.
