SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A stunning performance on the track in Brookings for
Louis-Lys Fanucchi resulted in an individual event win, a broken school record and now, Summit League Men's Track Peak Performer of the Week honors, league officials announced Tuesday.
Fanucchi raced his way to the top of the North Dakota track and field top 10 list with the first-ever sub-8 3000-meter clocking in program history after running a 7:58.50. His time won him first place in the event, shattered the previous school record of 8:03.05 and ranked 46
th in the NCAA this season.
The accolade marks the first career indoor weekly award for the sophomore.
North Dakota track and field will return to action this weekend for its home opener. The UND Open will kick off at 3 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
