NOTES: UND Closes Out 2022 Hosting NDSU

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota will close out the 2022 calendar year with conference play, hosting North Dakota State at 7 p.m. inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Friday, Dec. 30. Fans can follow all the action Midco Sports, as well as by tuning into Paul Ralston's call on the Home of Economy Radio Network (100.3 FM).

One of the Longest Active Rivalries
North Dakota and North Dakota State have squared off on the basketball court 305 times, making the rivalry the sixth active Division I rivalry to cross the 300-game plateau. The duo sits behind only Oregon vs. Oregon State, Oregon vs. Washington and Oregon State vs. Washington as the longest active rivalries in Division I men's basketball.

Series History vs. the Bison
This will be the 306th all-time meeting between the UND and NDSU men's basketball programs. North Dakota carries a 163-142 series lead and is 98-48 in games played in Grand Forks, while North Dakota State holds a 14-6 advantage in the Division I chapter of the rivalry.

Last season, the Bison took both games of the series. NDSU won 86-76 on its home court on Dec. 22, 2021 and then took the game in Grand Forks by a tally of 79-53 on Feb. 26.

Last Time Out
North Dakota fell 75-62 at St. Thomas on Dec. 19. The Tommies went on a 13-0 run in the second half and the Fighting Hawks were unable to overcome it, despite trimming the deficit to five points on two occasions after that run.

B.J. Omot paced UND with 14 points, making a team high six shots. He also grabbed four rebounds.

Elijah Brooks was next for the Hawks, pouring in 10 points and going 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. He also hauled in four boards.

Brady Danielson and Mitchell Sueker were the next closest players to double figures with nine points apiece.

Going Deep
North Dakota enters Friday's contest with the No. 1 team in bench scoring in the league and the No. 20 team nationally in that category. The Fighting Hawks average 31.36 points per game from the reserves this season. The next closest bench in the Summit league is the Mavericks with 23.54 points coming from its reserves.
