BOSTON, Mass. – Select North Dakota student-athletes ran at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday.
Luke Labatte broke the school record in the men's 5,000 meters with a PR time of 14:25.12. He broke the record of fellow Fighting Hawk,
Patrick Kipkemboi, who held the record at 14:32.59 and set it at last year's Summit League Indoor Championships.
Earlier in the day,
Nelson Ruto put down the No. 2 time in school history in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:31.97. At the time, Ruto became the school record holder until Labatte ran in the event later in the meet.
Justin Jelaca also posted an improvement to the UND top-10 list in the men's 5,000 meters, running a personal-best time of 14:56.59 to move up to No. 8 in school history.
Jake Hall set an all-time UND top-10 mark in the men's 3,000 meters and ran the second-fastest time in program history, clocking a time of 8:23.52. He was less than four seconds shy of breaking the school record.
Aleksa Milanovic also moved into the UND top-10 list in the 3,000 meters and put down the No. 4 time in school history with a time of 8:26.51.
Alec Nelson was just shy of making the UND top-10 list, finishing 0.04 seconds shy with a PR time of 8:36.99 in the 3,000 meters.
McKenzie Burian improved her No. 8 time on the all-time performance list at UND in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 17:19.25.
Jory Vasek was 10th in the 200 meters (22.79) and 11th in the 400 meters (51.02). His time in the 200 meters was good for a PR and missed the all-time top-10 performance list by 0.35 seconds.
The heptathlon concluded at the Dakota Alumni Classic on Saturday morning.
Cruz Megazzini finished third with 2,686 points and
Ben Hidani was fourth with 2,507 points. Both Megazzini and Hidani only competed in the first four events of the heptathlon.
North Dakota will continue the indoor track season after the Holiday break. The Fighting Hawks will return to North Dakota State on Jan. 14 for the Bison Team Cup.
