Hawks Falter in Second Half, Drop 76-66 Decision at Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho – In a game that featured six lead changes, North Dakota suffered a 76-66 decision to Idaho inside the ICCU Arena on Tuesday night.

The Fighting Hawks (5-6) had a one-point edge on the scoreboard at intermission but Idaho (4-5) went on 10-0 run midway through the second half to claim a 57-51 lead. UND trimmed the deficit to one moments later at 57-56 before a 6-0 run from the Vandals increased their lead to 63-56. North Dakota would not get any closer after that point and ultimately fell, 76-66.

B.J. Omot paced NoDak, putting in 15 points. He played a team-high 35 minutes and led the Fighting Hawks in both rebounds (7) and blocks (2).

Jalun Trent recorded a career-high 13 points, throwing down eight points in the second half alone. He dished out a team leading five assists and pulled in six boards.

Elijah Brooks came off the bench and poured in a season-high 13 points, going 6-for-9 from the field.

Matt Norman was just shy of double figures, adding eight points and two triples.

In the game, North Dakota shot 48.8 percent from the field (26-for-58), recorded eight makes from deep and went 6-for-14 at the free throw line. Idaho made 45.3 percent of its shots (24-for-53), knocked down 10 makes from three-point land and went 18-for-24 at the stripe.

The Fighting Hawks won the rebounding battle by a 38-22 margin. UND also finished with a 28-26 edge in the paint. The Vandals had nine steals and scored 15 points off Fighting Hawk turnovers. Meanwhile, UND had five steals and exchanged them for nine points.

North Dakota held a 34-33 edge on the scoreboard at the break. Neither team led by more than six points in the first half and the opening period featured only three lead changes. The Fighting Hawks held a 19-14 rebounding advantage and 16-12 edge in the paint. Both teams attempted 29 shots in the opening 20 minutes, with North Dakota making 14 of their scoring attempts and Idaho netting 12 of its shots.

Omot was the top Hawk at intermission with eight points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from distance. Brooks also shot 100 percent in the half, making all three of his shots from the field and his one attempt from deep.

North Dakota will return home on Saturday for its first doubleheader of the season. The UND men will host Seattle at 3 p.m., following the women's game against Weber State at 1 p.m. Both games will air on Midco Sports and will be carried on the Home of Economy Radio Network.
