ORLANDO -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team ended its week-long road trip in Orlando with a 5-2 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday evening.
UND (9-6) closed out a 2-1 record on the trip and have now won four of its last six matches.
Doubles play was dominated by the green and white, claiming all three matches to take a 1-0 lead.
Gerhard Sullwald and
Nikita Snezhko started the scoring with a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 court before
Riley Odell and
Dylan Leeman sealed the point with a 6-4 win from the bottom position.
Cian McDonnell and
Edmond Aynedjian added the exclamation mark with a 6-4 win of their own to seal the perfect start.
Moving into singles action, Aynedjian and
Petro Alex both captured wins by the same 6-3, 6-0 scores from the third and sixth courts, respectively, to extend the lead to 3-0.
The lead was cut to 3-1 following play at the No. 2 spot, but Sullwald sealed the victory by back-to-back 6-2 wins on the top court. Odell added the fifth point with a three-set battle, rallying back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to post 6-1 and 10-7 victories to polish off the 5-2 score.
North Dakota returns to action next Saturday at Air Force.
