CORAL GABLES, Fla. – On the second day of the Hurricane Invitational,
Elise Ulseth made a statement, rewriting the North Dakota record books with three new school records. As a team, the Fighting Hawks finished the Miami trip with three new program records, 21 top eight-finishes and five new marks on the UND top-10 list.
Ulseth set the tone for UND, breaking the school record on her first throw of the javelin with a distance of 165-0 (50.29m), eventually winning the event title with that throw. The previous record was 164-5 (50.11m) set by Jayd Eggert at the 2015 Big Sky Outdoor Championships.
Ulseth continued her record-breaking day later in the afternoon with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.91, bettering the previous record by .05 seconds. Erin Brown was the record holder coming into the day set at the 2020 Costal Carolina Invitational.
The Kristiansund, Norway, native finished her dominance at the Hurricane Invitational with her third school record, this time in the long jump with a record-breaking leap of 19-8 3/4 (6.01m) to place as the No. 2 collegiate finisher. Current Fighting Hawk
Jennifer Parent was the last record holder with a mark of 19-6 3/4 (5.96m) at last year's Summit League Outdoor Championships.
Erica Benson joined Ulseth in the long jump and had an impressive personal best of 18-3 (5.56m) to enter the UND all-time top-10 list at the No. 9 spot.
Parent and Benson also competed in the javelin throw with Ulseth to start the day and recorded third and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Parent was third with a mark of 128-5 (39.14m), while Benson finished sixth in 96-11 (29.55m).
In the men's javelin,
Andrew Walter finished as the runner-up with a throw of 172-2 (52.48m).
Natalie Mohring continued North Dakota's strong showing in the infield with a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 179-0 (54.57m). Her PR in the event missed out on the UND top-10 list by less than three inches.
