KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of North Dakota fell to Kansas City in a 2-0 decision to end the series on Sunday afternoon.
The Roos second run in the bottom of the sixth secured the 2-0 victory against the Fighting Hawks.
JannayJones pitched a complete game as she struck out eight in her 6.0 frames of work. Jones allowed four hits and two runs to drop her record to 4-8.
North Dakota out-hit the host 5-4 in the contest, as
Izzy Haslett once again provided the initial pop with a single to right field on her first at-bat.
Madi Moore doubled down the left field line to place Haslett on third at the top of the first, but the Roos were able to secure the last out to leave Haslett and Moore stranded.
The Fighting Hawks threatened again in the top of the second as
Mariah Peters singled up the middle and advanced to second off a ground out. UND was unable to bring the runner home once more to head into the bottom of the second scoreless.
Jones and the Fighting Hawks stepped up their defense as they kept the Roos without a hit until the bottom of the fourth when Kansas City took the 1-0 lead. North Dakota continued to battle as
Madison Pederson secured a hit and
Madi Moore earned another, but Kansas City scored once more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 2-0 victory.
North Dakota will return to action on Saturday, April 2 as they head to Macomb, Ill. to play the Western Illinois Leathernecks in a three-game series. The first game will be at noon.
