GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota softball head coach Jordan Stevens announced the addition of Kat Montuya as an assistant coach for the Fighting Hawks on Thursday afternoon.
 
"We are thrilled to add Coach Montuya to our team," said Stevens. "We had a great pool of candidates, but once we made the decision to set out sights on a hitting background, Coach rose quickly to the top. She has a great plan for what it will take to be successful with our group, contagious energy and an outstanding work ethic. Weare looking forward to being a valuable addition to our dugout."
 
Montuya comes to Grand Forks after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Wagner from 2024-2026. During her time with the Seahawks, she helped rebuild the program by assisting with practice planning, game strategy, recruiting and player development.
 
"I am honored to join the UND softball program and can't wait to get started," said Montuya. "I'm excited to help develop out student-athletes on and off the field while contributing to a competitive and successful culture. Go Hawks!"
 
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Montuya served as Wagner's director of softball operations, coordinating the program's day-to-day operations, including team logistics, travel arrangements and equipment management.
 
Before joining Wagner, Montuya was an athletic administration and strength and conditioning intern at University of California, Riverside during the 2023-24 academic year.
 
A four-year starter for the Highlanders softball team, Montuya appeared 172 games starting in 171. As a shortstop, she posted a .292 career batting average with 144 hits, 29 doubles, five triples and 15 home runs. As a freshman year, Montuya led UCR in batting average (.286), hits (28), OPS (.760), runs scored (13) and on-base percentage (.372). She earned All-Big West First Team honors in 2024 and honorable mention recognition in 2022.
 
Originally from Vallejo, Calif. Montauya received a bachelor's degree in business administration from UC Riverside before completing her MBA in marketing from Wagner College.
