TUSCON, Ariz. – The University of North Dakota softball team dropped a pair of contests on the second day of the Wildcat Invitational. The Fighting Hawks fell to Texas State (0-10) and Boise State (0-13).
Texas State 10, North Dakota 0
Texas State tallied six runs at the top of the fifth to post a 10-0 victory over North Dakota in five innings on Friday afternoon.
The Fighting Hawks (6-12) ran into trouble in the fourth frame, allowing three runs to extend the lead of the Bobcats from 1-0 to 4-0 as they headed into the fifth inning.
The Fighting Hawks were led by 4.0 inning of work from
Jannay Jones to start. She started the afternoon with a quick 1-2-3 first inning. She struck out three and allowed five hits and four runs to drop her to 2-6 on the season.
Lauren Feld stepped in to pitch one frame as she struck out one and allowed five hits and six runs.
Liz Feld tallied the lone hit for the Fighting Hawks as she tried to spark the offense at the bottom of the fourth.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth, Texas State six runs in the fifth inning to secure the 10-0 decision.
North Dakota 0, Boise State 13
The Broncos struck for three runs in the first and plated five more in the third to jump out to an early lead and never look back in a 13-0 win over UND.
Jackie Albrecht, who entered the game 2-2, struggled against the offense early. She pitched one frame where the Broncos scored three runs and had four hits to drop to 2-3 this season.
Morgan McConnell stepped to pitch three frames where she struck out two and allowed nine hits and nine runs as Boise State added to their lead.
Two errors in the bottom of the second allowed the Broncos to score only one run, but two more errors in the third are what made the difference as the Broncos scored five to extend the lead.
North Dakota came up with only one hit in the contest, as
Madi Moore provided the hit while as
Liz Feld and
Callie Honig picked up a walk each.
North Dakota will play two games on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. against Iowa State and then playing Loyola Chicago at 12:15 p.m. Games can be seen live on FloSoftball.
