OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Senior goaltender
Zach Driscoll has been named a finalist for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award, as announced Monday by the organization. He is one of 10 finalists for the award.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
Driscoll ascended to the top of many statistical lists in net during the season for North Dakota, finishing as the league's leader in save percentage (.919) and second in both goals against average (2.17) and wins (15) during NCHC play to help the Fighting Hawks become the first team in the conference's nine-year history to win three straight Penrose Cups as the regular season champions.
Off the ice, the Apple Valley, Minn., native is a three-time WCHA All-Academic selection and WCHA Student-Athlete of the Year during his time at Bemidji State while also earning four straight AHCA Division I Krampade All-American Scholar honors.
Last season, North Dakota's Jordan Kawaguchi became the first winner of the award in program history.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 20 candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 28. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Frozen Four® in April.
