GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Drake on Saturday afternoon from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
Despite the loss, UND will advance to the postseason and play these same Bulldogs at 6 p.m. from Omaha in the Summit League Tennis Championship Semifinals. It marks the first time in the program's Division I history that the Fighting Hawks have reached the postseason in back-to-back seasons.
Drake jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles action, but it wasn't without a fight from the hosts.
Dylan Leeman and
Riley Odell grabbed a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 court, but the Bulldogs picked up wins on the top-2 courts to claim the advantage.
In singles play, the visitors took ahold of the win with four wins in straight sets and one in the tiebreaker.
Nikita Snezhko picked up the point for the Hawks with a win via injury retirement, as he was holding a 6-3, 2-1 lead when play was suspended due to an injury.
North Dakota will turn its attention to the postseason, beginning next Friday at 6 p.m. in Omaha against Drake.
