ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Four student-athletes from the North Dakota football team highlighted the 2021 Missouri Valley Football Honor Roll, the league office announced on Wednesday morning. Those four student-athletes are among the 45 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference named to the league's highest academic achievement by earning the President's Council Academic Excellence Award. The Fighting Hawks earning the award were Tyler Burian, Kadon Kauppinen, Josh Navratil and Matt Waletzko.

The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (through the Fall 2021 semester) and participation in athletics a minimum of two years. The student-athlete must be scheduled to graduate by the end of the summer of 2022.

North Dakota also had 48 of the 324 total student-athletes earning the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.2 for the previous two semesters (freshmen are not eligible).

In addition, the Missouri Valley Football Conference announced its 2021-22 Honor Roll, which recognizes academic achievement of student-athletes. To qualify for the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum GPA of 3.0 (Fall 2021), must have been a member of the football team, and have a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment during the fall. More than 700 student-athletes in the conference earned Honor Roll recognition, including 75 Fighting Hawks.
