TULSA, Okla. – Austin Wolf (high jump),
Elise Ulseth (100-meter hurdles) and
Nelson Ruto (5,000 meters) became the final North Dakota athletes to earn medals and All-Summit League accolades at the Summit League Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
The Fighting Hawks concluded their stay at the Summit League Outdoor Championships with 10 medalists (three gold, three silver and four bronze), 18 improvements to the UND top-10 lists and four new school records. North Dakota finished fourth on the women's side with 97 points, while the NoDak men were sixth with 56 points.
Wolf gained All-Summit League honors in the high jump, earning the silver medal with a clearance of 6-8 (2.03m). With that finish, Wolf became a two-time all-conference performer in 2022, also finishing third in the high jump during the indoor season.
Ulseth picked up her third all-conference performance of the Summit League Outdoor Championships this afternoon, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.97. Ulseth concludes her stay at the outdoor championships with three medals (gold – long jump, silver – javelin and bronze – 100-meter hurdles). She also recorded a mark of 37-10 1/2 (11.54m) later in the afternoon to finish with the No. 6 triple jump leap in program history.
Ruto added his second All-Summit League performance of the meet on Saturday, getting the bronze medal in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:56.83. Earlier at the meet, Ruto took third in the 10,000 meters. His finish in the 5,000 meters was a two-spot improvement, as he was projected to take fifth in the event coming into the meet.
Patrick Kipkemboi joined Ruto in the 5,000 meters and placed fourth with a time of 15:04.56. Coming into the meet, Kipkemboi was not projected to score points.
Following a silver-medal performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last night,
Jadyn Keeler returned to the track this afternoon for the 5,000 meters and finished fourth in a time of 17:35.51.
The women's 4x400-meter relay unit of
Courtney Werner,
Michaela Oosthuizen,
Jerzie Finstad and
Brooklynn Gould took fourth in a time of 3:52.82, finishing 0.40 seconds away from a UND top-10 mark.
Allison Lardy put up the first four points for the North Dakota women on Saturday, claiming a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 46-4 1/4 (14.13m). Lardy finished one-spot better than where she was projected to place at the meet.
Jennifer Parent broke her own school record in the triple jump with a mark of 39-7 3/4 (12.08m) on her fourth attempt, bettering her previous best of 39-2 1/4 (11.94m) set at the 2021 Summit League Outdoor Championships. Parent's personal-best leap this afternoon held on to place sixth and was a two-spot improvement from where she was projected to finish at the conference meet.
Autumn Stokes joined Parent in the triple jump and added the final field event point for the UND women, placing eighth with a jump of 38-6 3/4 (11.75m). The eighth-place finish marks the second time in Stokes' career that she has scored points in the triple jump at the outdoor conference championships, also taking fourth in 2019.
On the track, the 4x100-meter relay team of
Mitchel Wangler,
Ben Hidani,
Jory Vasek and
Alvin George placed fifth in a time of 44.42 and put up the first four points for the North Dakota men of the day.
Shortly after the men's 4x100-meter relay, Wangler competed in the 110-meter hurdles and finished sixth in a time of 14.73. Wangler's finish was three-spots better than where he was projected to finish at the conference meet.
The women's 4x100-meter relay squad of Finstad,
Carley Johnson,
Mackenzie Severson and
Aleece Durbin clocked a time of 48.45 to finish sixth. That relay time now ranks as the seventh-fastest relay in school history.
Severson later went on to place sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a PR time of 1:02.37. That time now ranks No. 9 in UND history in the event.
Conny Wohlfahrt took seventh in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:33.63.
McKenzie Burian contributed two more points for the UND women in the 5,000 meters, placing seventh in 17:53.29.
The men's 4x400-meter team of Vasek, Wangler,
Matt Russell and
Alec Nelson added the final two points on the track for North Dakota, taking seventh in a time of 3:25.58.
Earlier in the meet, Vasek also added a point for the Fighting Hawks in the 400 meters, taking eighth in a time of 49.58.
Harris Maclean was the final Hawk to compete and finished eighth in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 14-10 1/4 (4.53m).
Qualifiers to the NCAA West Preliminary Round will be determined early next week, with athletes who have top-48 marks in the West Region earning bids to the competition. The NCAA West Preliminary Round is scheduled for May 25-28 in Fayetteville, Ark.
