Ulseth Also Recorded the Best UND Long Jump Mark at the Meet in Division I History

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Elise Ulseth was the first North Dakota track and field athlete to compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round and participated in both the javelin and long jump on Thursday.

Ulseth took 23rd in the javelin with a throw of 154-0 (46.95m). With that finish, Ulseth now owns the top finish by a UND javelin thrower at the NCAA West Preliminary Round since Jayd Eggert finished 14th in 2016.

Later in the evening, Ulseth competed in the long jump and finished 39th with a leap of 19-2 1/2 (5.85m). Her finish in the long jump was the best leap in Division I history for North Dakota in the event at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

Ulseth will complete her season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon on June 10-11 in Eugene, Ore., and will become the first UND combined events athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships in school history. Her point total of 5,685 earlier this season currently sits tied for the No. 11 heptathlon score in the nation and is also a school record.

Luke Labatte will be the next Fighting Hawk to compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round and will take the track Friday at 5:40 p.m. (CT) for the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
