Ulseth Begins Heptathlon at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Elise Ulseth began competition in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on Friday, becoming the first combined events athlete at UND to ever compete at a National Championship meet.

Through four events, Ulseth sits 23rd with 3,109 points.

The Kristiansund, Norway, native started the meet in the 100-meter hurdles and ran a time of 14.10, picking up her first 964 points of the meet.

Later in the afternoon, the Summit League Field Events Championship MVP impressed the crowd with a high jump clearance of 5-7 3/4 (1.72m) on her first attempt to finish with the sixth-best height of the afternoon. That clearance added 879 points to Ulseth's total to give her 1,843 points and moved her from No. 18 to No. 13 in the heptathlon standings.

Less than an hour later, Ulseth earned an additional 552 points in the shot put with a throw of 33-11 1/2 (10.35m).

Ulseth completed the opening day of the heptathlon with a time of 26.97 in the 200 meters for the final 714 points of the evening.

Ulseth will conclude the heptathlon at the National Championships on Saturday with the long jump at 12:30 p.m. (CT), javelin at 1:45 p.m. (CT) and 800 meters at 6:13 p.m. (CT).
