NOTES: Ulseth Gears Up for National Championships

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Elise Ulseth will make North Dakota track and field history this weekend, becoming the first combined events athlete ever to compete for a National Championship. The heptathlon portion of the NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place from June 10-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Ulseth will commence UND action at the meet on Friday, beginning with the 100-meter hurdles at 3 p.m., followed by the high jump at 4 p.m., shot put at 6 p.m. and the 200 meters at 9:43 p.m. The Kristiansund, Norway, native will conclude the heptathlon on Saturday with the long jump at 12:30 p.m., javelin at 1:45 p.m. and 800 meters at 6:13 p.m. All times listed are central.

The Summit League Field Events Championship MVP comes into the meet tied for the No. 16 heptathlon score nationally this season with a school record 5,685 points. This outdoor season alone, Ulseth has already rewritten the record books at North Dakota, holding the school record in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump, javelin and heptathlon, while also tying the program record in the high jump.

Student-Athletes that finish in the top 24 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships will earn All-America honors, with the top-eight finishers earning First-Team All-America status. Second-Team All-America honors will go to student-athletes that finish between ninth and 16th place. Any student-athletes who finish between 17th and 24th will pick up honorable mention accolades.

Heptathletes Finish with Best Ranking in School History
Following personal-best point totals in the heptathlon at the Summit League Outdoor Championships, the North Dakota heptathlon team (Elise Ulseth, Brooklynn Gould, Erica Benson and Elle Thorson) finished the season ranked No. 2 in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings with 20,721 points. The Fighting Hawks finish the team heptathlon season trailing only Duke (22,604 points). The second-place finish marks the best any team at North Dakota has ever ranked at the end of the season in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings.

Going into the National Championships, the Fighting Hawks have already achieved 48 new top-10 marks in school history this season, including 13 improvements to school records.
