North Dakota Ties Against Manitoba 3-3

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota tallied 17 total shots with eight on net in the tie with Manitoba, 3-3, from Bronson Field on Sunday afternoon.
 

UND found an offensive rhythm early on with eight shots and two corner kicks in the first half. Defensively, the Fighting Hawks held the Bisons to four shots and two corners. In the second half, the attack continued against Manitoba as NoDak had nine shots while the Bisons had six. 
 

North Dakota saw some new faces on the pitch as freshmen Reece Vorachek, Amelia Loeffler and Sarah McCracken made their debuts as starters.
 

Veteran Mary Gasaway led the Fighting Hawks with 90 minutes played and had one shot on goal while Payton Schultz, another returner, led UND with three shots on net and one goal in her 57 minutes of play. Manitoba was led by Bianca Cavalcanti as she scored two goals in her 58 minutes on the pitch.
 

Neither team was able to score before the end of regulation as the match ended with a tie (3-3).

Postgame Notes

  • North Dakota and Manitoba tied 3-3. They partook in friendly penalty kicks. Manitoba scored four of four shots taken. North Dakota scored two of the four shots taken.  
  • UND holds the lead in the all-time series at 5-3-1. This is the first tie between the two teams.
  • This is the first exhibition match between the two teams since 2019 when the Fighting Hawks beat the Bisons 4-1.
  • Reece Vorachek scored the first goal for North Dakota. The goal is the first of her career as a Fighting Hawk.
  • The remaining two goals scored by UND were netted by veterans Bailey McNitt and Payton Schultz.
  • UND was called for fouls 15 times against Manitoba.

  • 34:52 – UND | North Dakota responds as Julia Briggs sends a pass in to Reece Vorachek to tie it (1-1).
  • 43:00 – UND | Bailey McNitt receives assists from Vorachek and Hannah Olson to place the Fighting Hawks in the lead headed into halftime.

Second Half

  • 50:14 – Manitoba | Cavalcanti ties the game (2-2) as she scores off of an assist from Bianca Bucci.
  • 79:31 – Manitoba | Janelle Chomini sends a pass through to Jenna Kunkel to give the Bisons the lead.
  • 81:45 – UND | Payton Schultz connects on a pass from Jessica Machovec to tie the game (3-3) once again.
