North Dakota Battles But Falls to Minnesota 3-1

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota soccer team battled the University of Minnesota and fell, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon from Bronson Field.

The first half featured a lone goal scored by the Gophers, as the Fighting Hawks battled for possession. Minnesota scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute to make it 1-0 headed into halftime. In the first half, the Gophers led statistically. North Dakota had two shots, two corners and three saves compared to Minnesota's nine shots, eight corners and one save.

The second half saw three goals as the Gophers tallied two and the Fighting Hawks tallied one. UM added another goal in the 57th minute to make it 2-0 and then added another in the 67th minute to make it 3-0. UND continued to attack and scored in the 83rd minute. The second half was similar to the first statistically as UND had two shots, three saves and a corner while UM had nine shots, one save and three corners.

The match saw physicality as the teams combined for 21 fouls with no cards in the game.

  • Sarah McCracken scored the Fighting Hawks lone goal of the match, making it her first as a Fighting Hawk.

  • 83:53 – UND | A scramble in front of the net off a free kick leads to Irene Jirasevijinda passing to Bailey McNitt who sends it to Sarah McCracken who scores to make 3-1.
