NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon from Nashville, Tenn. to close out a 1-1 weekend to begin the 2023 season.
UND (1-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a rally in doubles play thanks to victories on the top pair of courts. Following a win by the Bisons (1-0) at the bottom spot, the top duo of
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson evened it up with a 7-5 triumph before
Jule Schulte and
Nore Heinitz capped off their perfect weekend in two-person play with a 7-6 win on the No. 2 court to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage as play moved to singles.
Schulte kept her strong day rolling in singles action, extending the UND lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on the No. 5 court; however, Lipscomb answered with victories on the remainder of the courts to rally back for a 5-2 overall match win.
North Dakota will open up the home portion of the schedule next Friday at noon against Northern Iowa from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.
