NoDak improves to 3-0 for first time in Division I history with 6-1 win over Army

Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team defeated Army, 6-1, on Saturday morning in the first of two matches on the day in West Point, N.Y. 

With the win, UND improves to 3-0 for the first time in the Division I era and has also won its first three road games to begin a season for the first time in the DI era. 

The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead for the third straight match by capturing the doubles point with victories on the No. 1 and 3 courts. Nikita Snezhko and Gerhard Sullwald kept their hot play rolling with a 6-3 victory at the top spot before Riley Odell and Drew Van Fossen sealed the 1-0 start for the visitors by a 6-4 score on the bottom court. 

Sullwald kept his perfect season alive in singles play, extending the NoDak lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win on the No. 1 court and Cian McDonnell pushed the match to its brink by a similar 6-4, 6-2 score at the second spot. 

Petro Alex provided the clinching triumph on the No. 6 court with a 6-4, 6-3 win to seal the overall match victory for the Fighting Hawks. Snezhko battled to a tight, 7-6 victory in the first set before cruising to a 6-2 win in the second to claim the fifth point of the day for UND and the fourth singles win at the No. 4 spot. 

UND kept it rolling to collect the victory, as Edmond Aynedjian notched a 6-2, 7-6 triumph from the third position to close out the 6-1 victory over the Black Knights (0-1).

North Dakota and Rider are slated to begin around 5 p.m. this evening in the second match of the day for the Fighting Hawks from West Point.
