Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team concluded its three-match weekend in style, defeating Colgate, 5-2, on Sunday morning from West Point, N.Y.
With the victory, UND finishes the weekend with a trio of wins in three tries to move to 5-0 on the season. The five-match winning streak is the third time in the last four seasons that the Fighting Hawks have gone on a streak that long.
In doubles action, UND rode the play of its top-two courts to build the 1-0 lead.
Gerhard Sullwald and
Nikita Snezhko opened it up with a 6-4 victory on the top court before
Cian McDonnell and
Edmond Aynedjian followed with a 6-2 win from the second position to give the green and white the early advantage.
Sullwald remained perfect during the 2023 portion of the season by a 6-0, 6-3 score at the No. 1 spot to open singles play and give NoDak a 2-0 lead when Aynedjian extended the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win on the third court to once again put the Hawks in clinching position.
McDonnell provided the clinching honors against the Raiders (0-3) at the No. 2 court with a 6-0, 7-5 victory while Snezhko battled to a three-set victory, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0, from the fourth spot to add the fifth point of the match and close out the 5-2 triumph.
North Dakota will open the home portion of the schedule next Friday at 5 p.m. against Creighton from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.
