NoDak closes 2023 with strong performance

POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- The University of North Dakota men's golf program rounded out the 2023 portion of the 2023-24 slate with a strong performance at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, hosted by Old Dominion, from Kilarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C. 

As a team, UND finished eighth out of 15 teams competing with a total score of 887 (+35). The Fighting Hawks were just six shots away from matching the program's Division I record for the lowest 54-hole score, which was matched earlier this month, as well as just four shots away from the best 18-hole round in UND's Division I era, which was set at this tournament last season. 

Joseph Kortan put together three strong rounds once again to pace the Fighting Hawks and finish tied for 25th with a 222 (+9) overall score to match his personal-best score for a 54-hole event in his young career.

Grayson Wetch had the second-best round of the week for the green and white, opening with a 71 to finish tied for 35th with a 225 (+12) while Lucas Feterl shaved eight strokes off his score from the second to the third round to fire a 72 over the final 18 holes and finish with a 227 (+14) and sit tied for 41st. The pair also paced UND with nine birdies each, to rank among the top-20 of all individuals. 

Kagan Kollar shook off a tough opening round to finish just behind Feterl with a 229 (+16) while Erik Stoxen rounded out the scoring wiht a 234 (+21) to tie for 59th. The duo each fired the best 18-hole score of the tournament for UND with a 70.

North Dakota will enjoy a break before returning to play in 2024 with the spring portion of the schedule.
