Jackrabbits Sweep Fighting Hawks 3-0 in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The North Dakota volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match Thursday night, falling 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-22) to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

Lauren Perugini led the Fighting Hawks with nine kills and picked up five digs. Izzie McCormick led UND with ten digs and three aces while Elizabeth Norris tallied a team-high 17 assists.

SDSU scored the first six points of the first set, which was a hole that the Fighting Hawks were unable to dig out of. The closest that the visitors could get was within two at 8-6, but SDSU was able to hold off the green and white and lead wire-to-wire to go up 1-0 in the match.

The second frame started in an axiomatic fashion from set number one, with the teams being tied at one, two, three and four. From there a 7-2 run by the green and white gave NoDak an 11-6 lead, which was maintained most of the set. SDSU knotted it up at 20, and then got their first setpoint at 24-21. UND fought off two setpoints but the third gave the Jackrabbits a 2-0 lead in the match.

Paige Barber picked up two kills in a 6-2 run to open the third set, which saw NoDak lead for most of the early going. Once SDSU took the lead at 14-13, the Fighting Hawks did not lead the rest of the match. The green and white got within one on two different occasions, but could not overtake the Jackrabbits.

Saturday the Fighting Hawks will be at home against Kansas City and then host North Dakota State on Tuesday, Nov. 14 on Senior Night.
