Next Game: vs. South Dakota State
North Dakota goes on the road in league play for the first time this season, taking on South Dakota State in Brookings.
Series History vs. the Jackrabbits
This will be meeting #200 for the two schools, whose history dates back to 1917. UND owns the edge in the series 105-94, but in Brookings trails SDSU 62-35.
Recent history has been tilted entirely in the favor of the Jackrabbits, who have won 15 straight in the series. The last UND win was on December 15, 2011 in Grand Forks. Furthermore, the last 21 meetings in Brooking have gone the way of SDSU.
Party Like it's 1995
The last time UND won at Frost Arena was Feb. 11, 1995, when the Sioux defeated the Jackrabbits, 84-72, in Brookings. Since then North Dakota has lost its last 21 against the Jacks at Frost. The Fighting Hawks are looking to close 2023 with their first win at SDSU since the mid-90's.
On Feb. 11, 1995, the No. 1 movie at the box office was Billy Madison, the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 was "Creep" by TLC, and Coach Sather was just wrapping up his junior year as a college student at Northern State.
Scouting the Opponent
The Jackrabbits are led by Coach Eric Henderson, who is in his 5th season leading the team. He led the Jacks to the NCAA Tournament two years ago after going undefeated in the Summit League; a first in Summit League history. It also was the first 30 win campaign in program history.
The team is averaging 74.7 points per game, and allowing 71.5. From the floor the Jacks are shooting .454 and .349 from three point range. Zeke Mayo leads the team with 17 points per game, joined in double figures by Charlie Easley with 11.8, William Kyle III with 11.2 and Luke Appel with 10.5. Mayo also leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per game and 42 assists. Nate Barnhart leads with 21 blocks and Easley leads with 34 steals.
Living Downtown
Last season the team broke the program record for three pointers made in a single game with 18 against Kansas City, breaking the record set on December 14, 2021 against North Central University.
North Dakota has hit at least one triple in every game dating back to Mar. 1, 2018. The last time the Hawks did not make a three came on Feb. 24, 2018, when UND went 0-for-8 from downtown at Northern Colorado in a 79-66 loss. North Dakota has hit at least one three in each of the last 171 games played.
