NOTES: Men's Basketball Welcomes Portland on Saturday

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The North Dakota men's basketball team is back home for the first time since November 28 and will take on the Portland Pilots on Saturday at 1 p.m. Portland is coming off a loss at North Dakota State on Thursday night, and the Fighting Hawks are looking to snap a two game losing streak. UND fell at Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside last week to drop to 6-3 on the season, and are 3-0 at home so far this season.

North Dakota is back at the Betty this week for the return of a home-and-home with the Portland Pilots of the West Coast Conference this Saturday at 1 p.m.

 

Series History vs. the Pilots

The two teams have met twice before—both times in Portland. The first meeting was on December 23, 1958 and the last meeting was December 3, 2022. The Pilots took both meetings, winning 78-49 in the first meeting and 90-69 in last season's matchup.

 

Scouting the Opponent

The Pilots have started the season 5-5. They are averaging 77.8 points per game, with a .473 shooting percentage from the floor, .339 from three point range and .727 from the line. They are averaging 37.4 rebounds per game and surrendering 33.5 per game. 

Tyler Robertson leads the team with 16.8 points per game, shooting .488 from the field and .365 from beyond the arc. Tyler Harris leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game, which is 66th nationally (through games played on 12/7). Harris has also made 14 of 27 three point shots this season and averages 13.1 points per game, while leading the team with 16 blocked shots. Robertson leads with 48 assists and Juan Sebastian Gorosito leads them with 12 steals.  

 

Living Downtown

Last season the team broke the program record for three pointers made in a single game with 18 against Kansas City, breaking the record set on December 14, 2021 against North Central University.

North Dakota has hit at least one triple in every game dating back to Mar. 1, 2018. The last time the Hawks did not make a three came on Feb. 24, 2018, when UND went 0-for-8 from downtown at Northern Colorado in a 79-66 loss. North Dakota has hit at least one three in each of the last 166 games played.
