GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota broke a school record and posted seven event wins at the UND Tune-Up on Saturday. The Hawks finished the day with 21 top-three finishes and posted six improvements to the UND top-10 list.
In the final event on the track of the day, North Dakota broke the school record in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a personal-best time of 3:15.50. The relay team consisted of
Cruz Megazzini,
Alex Kaffine,
Jory Vasek and
Jesse Middendorf. They broke the record of 3:17.31, set at the 1987 NCAA Championships by Chuck Torrance, Tracy Martin, Bryan Greenwood and Norm McGee.
In the race prior, the team of
Maggie Dervis,
Malene Kollberg,
Brooklynn Gould and
Jerzie Finstad ran the No. 6 time in program history in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a PR time of 3:52.81 and won that race.
Dervis also claimed the 400-meter crown with a personal-best time of 59.56.
The UND throwers set the tone in the first event of the day, taking the first three spots in the women's weight throw.
Kenna Curry was the champion, winning the event with a personal-best throw of 64-3 3/4 (19.60m) to move up to No. 3 all-time in school history.
Allison Lardy was the runner-up with a PR toss of 63-7 1/2 (19.39m), moving her up to No. 4 in program history with that throw.
Natalie Mohring was third with a mark of 59-3 1/2 (18.07m).
Eve Goldstein won the shot put with a throw of 46-1 1/4 (14.05m). Lardy also took third in the event with a distance of 45-5 (13.84m).
Kollberg won the high jump with a clearance of 5-7 (1.70m), good to tie her for No. 8 in school history.
Ashley Conneran was the runner-up with a height of 5-1 3/4 (1.57m). Kollberg was also the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.85.
Later in the day,
Max Baker claimed the crown in the 200 meters with a PR time of 22.75. On the women's side,
Carley Johnson took third with a time of 26.65.
North Dakota cleaned up in the long jump, with
Elise Ulseth (unattached) taking first with a PR leap of 19-5 1/4 (5.92m). Ulseth's leap would have broken the school record.
Tiffanie Magnusson was the runner-up with a mark of 18-11 1/4 (5.77m).
Eucabeth Kivikangas also moved into the UND top-10 list and was third with the No. 5 leap in school history at 18-10 (5.74m).
Ellyssa Peterson and
Jadyn Keeler, both competing unattached, took the top two spots in the mile and 3,000 meters. Peterson won the mile in a time of 5:00.76 and later won the 3,000-meter crown with a time of 9:57.87. Keeler was the runner-up in both events, clocking a time of 5:03.20 in the mile and a time of 10:17.35 in the 3,000 meters.
Finstad and
Aleece Durbin took part in one of the most exciting finishes of the day, with it featuring a photo-finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Finstad ended up taking second in 7.93 (7.925), while Durbin was right behind her in 7.93 (7.930).
Moments later, Vasek posted a time of 7.19 in the 60-meter final to place third.
Josh Beck also took third in the 400 meters with a PR time of 51.27.
Aric David recorded a personal-best high jump mark of 6-0 1/2 (1.84m) and was third.
In the final event of the day,
Claire Leach placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 35-8 (10.87m).
North Dakota will visit Vermillion, S.D., for the Summit League Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.

* North Dakota came away with seven event titles, 10 if you count the unattached Hawks that also won titles.
* The UND women won the meet with 166 points, with the next closest team being Bemidji State with 91 points.
* The NoDak men finished third with 61 points.
* The Fighting Hawks close out the regular season with eight new school records.
* The 4x400-meter team of

* Middendorf continues to break a school record every time he steps on the track in 2023 and is 4-for-4 on breaking records.
