Teamwork shines in North Dakota win over Western Illinois, 86-70

MACOMB, ILL – The University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks (18-9, 11-6 SL) took home its third straight road win against the Western Illinois (10-18, 5-12 SL) Fighting Leathernecks.
North Dakota can finish no worse than 3rd in the Summit League standing heading into the final game of the regular season.

Kacie Borowicz led with 31 points and five assists. She also drew 11 fouls.

Claire Orth Led with nine rebounds and had 15 pts.

Nakiyah Hurst and Juliet Gordon both had 11 pts.

Rakiyah Beal led with a career high of four steals.

The Fighting Hawks had a strong in the opening minutes going 8 for 17 from the field and drawing five fouls in the first quarter. NoDak found a steady rhythm in the second, added 21 points while holding Western Illinois to 13. Allie McCarthy swished a huge three to extend the lead to 12 in the final three minutes of the half. UND took an 11-point lead into the break.
The third quarter, which was a sore spot in January, seemed to work itself out headed into the final seven games of the season. UND created as much as a 20-point gap. The final quarter, the Leathernecks tried to make a final push, but good defense held them off.
Head Coach Mallory Bernhard said "This was another great team win. Everyone contributed something to help us get this win. We really played together well and did a nice job distributing and finding our open teammates. We are a fun team to watch when we play that kind of ball."
