VALPARAISO, Ind. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team fell, 6-1, to Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon from The Courts of NWI in Valpoaraiso, Ind. in the first of two matches on the weekend.
UND (4-7) nearly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles play, as the pair of
Angela Georgieva and
Jule Schulte opened the contest with a 6-4 triumph at the No. 3 court, but the Beacons (7-1) answered back with a pair of tight wins on the top-two courts to take the early advantage.
Valpo took control in singles play, claiming five of the six contests in two sets to come away with the overall match victory. North Dakota wasn't held off the scoresheet, however, as
Nyah Kauders battled for a 7-6 win in the first set before rolling to a 6-1 score in the second to grab the point for the visitors.
North Dakota closes out the weekend on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Chicago State from the Windy City.
