VERMILLION, S.D. – Jesse Middendorf (800 meters) and
Kenna Curry (shot put) won bronze medals in their respective events on the final day of the Summit League Indoor Championships inside the DakotaDome on Sunday. North Dakota finished with a total of 11 medals at the conference championships.
In the team standings, the UND women finished fourth with 79 points, while the NoDak men were sixth with 34 points. Both teams for North Dakota finished one spot better than last season in the team standings.
Middendorf was the top scorer for the Fighting Hawk men on Sunday, earning the bronze medal and All-Summit League honors in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.41. His third-place finish accounted for six points on the men's side.
The UND throwers on the women's side were the most productive group of the day, adding 14 points to North Dakota's point total in the shot put. Curry picked up all-conference accolades and the bronze medal in the event with a personal-best toss of 47-10 (14.58m). Her throw now ranks No. 3 all-time in the shot put at UND.
Allison Lardy and
Eve Goldstein joined Curry in the shot put and combined for eight points. Lardy was fourth with a throw of 46-10 1/4 (14.28m), while Goldstein took sixth with a mark of 46-4 1/4 (14.13m).
Austin Wolf just missed out on All-Summit League accolades and was fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-9 1/4 (2.06m). Later in the day, he took part in the triple jump and was eighth with a PR distance of 44-8 3/4 (13.63m), good for the No. 6 jump in school history.
Maguire Petersen became the second UND athlete in school history to eclipse 5,000 points in the heptathlon and took fifth with 5,033 points. His point total sits No. 2 in school history. Petersen recorded the fourth-best time of the morning in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.64. On Saturday, Petersen won the heptathlon shot put (43-4 1/2, 13.22m) and heptathlon high jump (6-8, 2.03m).
Later in the day on the track,
Jerzie Finstad put down the fifth-fastest 400-meter time in program history with a PR time of 56.45 to place fifth.
Luke Labatte scored two points for the UND men on Sunday, finishing seventh in the mile with a time of 4:13.56.
Malene Kollberg, the Summit League Pentathlon Champion on Saturday, returned to the conference championships on Sunday and tied for seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 5-3 (1.60m).
Hinewai Knowles ran the third-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in program history with a time of 8.72 to finish eighth. That time moved her up to No. 3 all-time at UND.
Nelson Ruto and
McKenzie Burian took eighth in their respective 5,000-meter events. Ruto was eighth on the men's side with a time of 14:42.65, while Burian placed eighth in the women's section in 17:38.51.
In the final track event of the day, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Finstad,
Maggie Dervis,
Brooklynn Gould and Kollberg scored the final five points for the UND women and were fourth with a time of 3:59.09. The men's 4x400-meter squad of Middendorf,
Jory Vasek,
Cruz Megazzini and
Alex Kaffine placed sixth, clocking a time of 3:21.61.
Back in the heptathlon,
Trenton Hanseder finished just outside of scoring and was ninth with a PR total of 4,697 points. His point total sits No. 5 in school history. Hanseder recorded personal-bests in the 60-meter hurdles (8.84) and pole vault (13-11 1/4, 4.25m) on Sunday.
Ben Hidani was 10th in the heptathlon and finished with 4,589 points. He had the second-best heptathlon pole vault mark of the day with a PR clearance of 15-3 (4.65m), beating his previous best of 14-9 (4.50m).
Aric David was 11th in the heptathlon with a personal-best point total of 4,533. That total moved David up to No. 7 in the event in school history. He recorded a PR height of 13-7 1/4 (4.15m) in the pole vault on Sunday.

* Magnusson broke the lone school record of the meet in the long jump, putting down a PR leap of 19-7 1/2 (5.98m) in the pentathlon long jump on Saturday.
