Labatte Breaks Program Record, Three Additional Top-10 Marks Posted

SOUTH BEND, Ind./FARGO, N.D. – Luke Labatte broke his own school record at Notre Dame on Saturday morning and the Fighting Hawks posted three additional improvements to the UND top-10 lists on Saturday afternoon at North Dakota State.

Labatte beat his previous school record by nearly a full second in the mile, finishing fifth with a personal-best time of 4:06.11 at the Meyo Invitational. Two weeks ago, Labatte became the school record-holder in the event with a time of 4:07.09 in Brookings.

At the Bison Open, Kenna Curry (shot put), Malene Kollberg (60-meter hurdles) and Cruz Megazzini (long jump) moved up the UND top-10 lists in their respective events.

Curry posted the best field event finish of the day for UND, finishing as the runner-up in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 47-5 3/4 (14.47m). That throw moved her up to No. 3 on the UND top-10 list.

Kollberg qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final with a time PR time of 8.76 in prelims, moving her up to No. 4 in program history. She later ran a time of 9.10 in the 60-meter final to place sixth.

Megazzini finished third in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 22-5 3/4 (6.85m), good for No. 8 on the top-10 list. Trenton Hanseder also joined Megazzini in the long jump and placed sixth with a leap of 21-0 3/4 (6.42m).

Jerzie Finstad finished as the runner-up in the women's 400 meters with a time of 57.60. In the men's section, Jory Vasek was eighth with a time of 50.56.

Three other Hawks (two attached, one unattached) also placed in the shot put. Eve Goldstein finished two spots behind Curry and took fourth with a toss of 46-0 (14.02m), followed immediately by Allison Lardy in fifth with a throw of 44-9 1/2 (13.65m). Julia Matthews, competing unattached, finished seventh with a mark of 44-0 (13.41m).

In the high jump sections, five Hawks placed. On the women's side, Ashley Conneran paced the group, tying for fourth place with a height of 5-1 (1.55m). Elle Thorson was sixth at 5-1 (1.55m), followed by Malene Kollberg getting seventh at that same height. Tiffanie Magnusson tied for eighth with a clearance of 4-11 (1.50m). In the men's event, Austin Wolf took fifth in the high jump with a height of 6-5 1/2 (1.97m).

Earlier in the day, Aleece Durbin joined Kollberg in the 60-meter hurdles final and finished seventh in a time of 9.28. She also qualified for the 60-meter final and took seventh in that race with a time of 7.98.

In the women's long jump, Brooklynn Gould finished seventh with a distance of 17-11 1/2 (5.47m).

North Dakota will split up for three meets next weekend, competing at Boston, New Mexico and South Dakota State on Friday (Feb. 10) and Saturday (Feb. 11).
