Fighting Hawks cruise to 7-0 win over Western Illinois, 4-0 Summit League start

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team returned home for the first time in 20 days in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 7-0 win over Western Illinois on Friday afternoon from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. 

With the victory, UND improves to 9-10 on the season and 4-0 in Summit League action, marking the first time in the program's Division I history winning its first four conference contests. 

North Dakota jumped out to a strong start, grabbing victories on the top and bottom courts to grab a 1-0 lead in doubles action. The bottom pairing of Jule Schulte and Charlotte Bowles started it off with a 6-1 triumph at the No. 3 spot before Sapir Sela and Andrea Jansson sealed the 1-0 advantage by a 6-4 score from the No. 1 position. 

The Fighting Hawks kept their foot down during singles play, winning all 12 sets contested to cruise to a 7-0 victory. Schulte kept her strong play rolling of late with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 court while Heinitz follwed right behind with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph one spot down to push the lead to 3-0. 

Sela provided the clinching point for NoDak at the second spot by a 6-4, 6-2 score before Kauders extended the advantage to 5-0 on the top court with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Jansson added the sixth point of the afternoon for the hosts from the third position by a 6-4, 6-1 victory and Bowles added the exclamation point at the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 7-6 win. 

North Dakota will hit the road to try and move to 5-0 in league action in a Sunday match against St. Thomas at 11 a.m. from St. Paul, Minn.
