Curry Wins Title at Stanford, UND Wraps Up California Meets

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif./STANFORD, Calif. – North Dakota wrapped up action at two California meets on Saturday. Kenna Curry had the top performance for UND, winning an event title at Stanford.

Curry claimed the hammer throw title in the collegiate section at the Stanford Invitational with a personal-best toss of 181-10 (55.42m). That throw tied her for No. 9 in the event in school history. Later in the meet, Curry finished sixth in the invitational section of the discus with a mark of 154-11 (47.22m).

Eve Goldstein also threw in the discus in the collegiate section at Stanford and placed eighth with a throw of 134-0 (40.84m).

On the Cardinal track, Jesse Middendorf took part in the 800 meters and was third in his section with a time of 1:52.72, good for No. 6 on the UND top-10 list.

At the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, the 4x100-meter team of Carley Johnson, Aleece Durbin, Jerzie Finstad and Hinewai Knowles were the first Fighting Hawks to compete and placed third with a time of 48.65.

The UND high jumpers went 3-4-5 in San Francisco, all finishing with a height of 5-2 1/4 (1.58m). Ashley Conneran was the top Hawk in the group, placing third. Malene Kollberg was right behind her in fourth, while Elle Thorson finished fifth.

North Dakota also went 4-5-6 in the long jump. Trenton Hanseder paced the squad and took fourth with a personal-best leap of 22-3 3/4 (6.80m). Aric David also recorded a PR at 21-10 3/4 (6.67m) and was fifth, trailed by Maguire Petersen taking sixth with a jump of 21-5 1/4 (6.53m).

Back on the track in San Francisco, Kollberg placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.51, good for No. 6 on the UND top-10 list.

Maggie Dervis and Claire Leach were the final Hawks to compete, and both took eighth in their respective events. Dervis placed eighth in the 400 meters with a PR time of 59.80, while Leach finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-4 (11.07m).

North Dakota will visit Vermillion on Friday (April 7) and Saturday (April 8) for the USD Early Bird.

* The Fighting Hawks saw action at the Texas Relays, Mike Fanelli Track Classic and Stanford Invitational this week.
* Nine improvements were made to the UND top-10 list this week, with one being a school record.
* Aleksa Milanovic broke the program record in the 1,500 meters at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Friday.
