Fighting Hawks fall short in Summit League title match to No. 44 Denver

TULSA, Okla. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to No. 44 Denver in the championship match of the 2023 Summit League Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday afternoon from Tulsa, Okla.

With the loss, UND's season comes to an end with an overall record of 11-13 and will finish just one victory shy of advancing to the NCAA Tennis Championships for the first time since moving to Division I era.

North Dakota battled in doubles action, but No. 44 Denver took a 1-0 lead with victories on the bottom two courts. Nore Heinitz and Jule Schulte came up just short in a 7-5 loss on the middle spot while Sapir Sela and Andrea Jansson held a 6-5 lead at the top position when play was halted.

The Pioneers, who dropped only one point to conference opponents all year to North Dakota last weekend, took control in singles play by claiming the first set on all six courts before closing out wins on the No. 1, 2 and 3 courts to clinch their ninth straight postseason tournament title.
