KANSAS CITY -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team fell, 6-1, at Kansas City on Saturday afternoon in the final road match of the regular season.
The loss is the first of the conference campaign for the Fighting Hawks, who fall to 5-1 in league action and 10-11 overall. UND, who has clinched a spot in the Summit League Tennis Championships, can finish as either the first, second or third seed with one match remaining in the regular season.
Kansas City (8-9, 4-1 Summit League) grabbed the doubles points with victories on the No. 2 and 3 courts, with the duo of
Sapir Sela and and
Andrea Jansson keeping their strong play rolling with a 6-4 win at the top spot.
The Fighting Hawks took a trio of courts to three sets in singles action, but the Roos came away with five triumphs to come away with the 6-1 overall match win. Jansson, who was named the league's top player last week, captured a point for the visitors at the No. 3 court after bouncing back from a 6-0 defeat in the opening set to post 6-1, 6-2 victories.
North Dakota will close out the regular season at home against Denver on Saturday, Apr. 15 at 4 p.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
